Jean-Pierre, a young and dynamic Surinamese, spent his formative years in the Amazon region. Growing up in a family that regularly explored the jungle, he developed a lasting passion for the natural world.
Today, Jean-Pierre is a seasoned cameraman and photographer who fervently shares the wonders of nature with his fellow countrymen. Believing that fostering a connection between humans and the environment is crucial for conservation efforts, he has made it his mission to bring his compatriots closer to the marvels of the natural world.
In a country where snakes are often misunderstood, Jean-Pierre dedicates his life to dispelling misconceptions and educating others about these fascinating creatures. He is one of the members of Suriname Snake Patrol, who happily assist people to capture and release snakes who come into contact with people. Widely recognized as the ‘snake man,’ Jean-Pierre combines his expertise in herpetology with his love for photography, creating captivating imagery that not only showcases the beauty of the natural world but also serves as a powerful tool for environmental education.
In cooperation with Forest93 and the Keep Suriname Green campaign, Jean-Pierre launched his first photo exhibition of his nature photography from March 21-23, 2024 during the Green Awareness Expo and Earth Hour event at Torarica Ressort in Paramaribo, which was received with high praises from the public.
Jean-Pierre’s dedication to conservation, coupled with his artistic prowess, positions him as a unique and influential figure in both the fields of nature exploration and photography. His work not only captures the essence of the Surinamese landscape but also inspires a renewed appreciation for the delicate balance between humans and the environment. Since 2024, Jean-Pierre has been a proud Forest93 Ambassador.
